Coach Pitch Rules

June 8, 2017

The following is a copy of the Cocah Pitch Rules for 2017, hopefully this will help with any misconceptions or questions that anyone has had.

2017 Coach Pitch Rules

  1. The main goal of coach pitch is to teach children the game of baseball in a fun manner.
  2. Games are 5 innings or 1 hr and 15 minutes. No new inning is to start after 65 minutes.
  3. Each half inning will consist of 3 outs or 4 runs scored.
  4. Teams put 10 players on the field.4 outfielders, a pitchers helper, a catcher, 1st baseman, 2nd baseman, 3rd baseman and shortstop. The pitchers helper should wear a helmet with a face mask.
  5. Outs can be made at first base by throwing the ball to the 1st baseman who touches the base or runner, or a ball thrown in the arch at first base before the runner touches the base.Fielders at other positions may not run the ball to first base, it must be thrown.Outs at other bases are made by tagging the runner or stepping on the base with the ball.
  6. Each batter gets 4 pitches delivered by their coach. If they do not hit any of the 4 pitches then a tee is brought out and they hit off the tee.The at bat continues until the ball is put in play.
  7. Please have runners advance 1 base at a time unless a ball is hit past all the fielders.Do not advance runners on overthrows. The emphasis is on skill development and learning the rules of the game.
  8. After each game the home team is responsible for submitting scores to be posted on our website.
  9. Games are umpired by yourselves, use a coach or a parent volunteer.
  10. Bases are set at 55’.
